Sal Dammar is a whitish to yellowish natural gum of plant (family Dipterocarpaceae).
In India, Sal dammar has been widely utilized as an indigenous system of medicine. It is popularly used as an incense in religious ceremonies.
Dammar has been used as an emulsifier and stabilizer for the production of colour, paints, inks and aromatic emulsions in food and cosmetic industries.
It is also noted to have applications in the manufacture of paper, wood, varnishes, lacquers and polishes. It has been used for water- resistant coating and caulking of wooden boats. In pharmaceutical and dental industries for its strong binding properties.
